Miami Spice is finally here and foodies from all over South Florida are rejoicing as more than 250 restaurants offer the best of the best with 3 course offerings at only $23 for lunch and $39 for dinner. With so many different menus to choose from, I narrowed it down to my top 5 must tries of this years Miami Spice for Lunch and for Dinner:

94th Aero Squadron Restaurant 

With views overlooking the Miami International Airport, 94th Aero Squadron is a refreshing change of scenery that you might just not want to miss this Summer. Their Miami Spice Lunch Menu offers 3 options for appetizers and 5 options of entrees , giving every picky eater a variety of dishes to choose from. The Beer Cheese Soup is a must try, being one of their signature items since 1974! Lunch is typically served from 11:00am – 4:00pm, and will be offered Monday – Friday.  ( Not in the mood for Miami Spice? Try their Champagne Sunday Brunch! Carving, pasta, and omelette stations, plus fresh seafood and dessert buffets galore)

Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant & Wine Bar

I am just going to go ahead and be 100% honest here, this is by far my favorite restaurant in South Florida! A true hidden gem, nestled in the heart of Kendall, Chef Adrianne’s is a true reflection of how someones passion for food can be tasted in every dish and every bite! Ladies and gentlemen if you want flavor, presentation, ambiance and taste bud magic, than I implore you to try Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant & Wine Bar. The Miami Spice menu offers 3 choice of appetizers, and 4 entree choices. A Dark Chocolate and Nutella Croissant Bread Pudding with Vanilla ice cream is the only real choice you need when it comes to the dessert option. If this is your first year giving Miami Spice a try, then make Chef Adrianne’s your first choice. Lunch is available from 11am-2:30pm Tuesday – Friday & Saturdays beginning at 12:00pm. I promise you wont regret it. (Reservations are highly recommended)

Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar

If fun bold flavors is what you are craving, than Pisco Y Nazca might be what you are looking for. Located in The Palms at Town & Country, this fairly new eatery serves Peruvian dishes with a modern twist. If you are a fan of seafood than the Ceviche Tropical would be your choice of appetizer along with their Pescado Andino ( Sanpper Filet with a creamy huacatay sauce. Their Miami Spice menu includes your choice of one of 5 appetizers , 5 entrees , and 2 desserts. Great spot for socializing while enjoying great tasting dishes! Miami Spice dinner menu is being offered Monday – Sunday (hours vary)

El Cielo Restaurant 

This is the only restaurant on the list that I myself have not actually tried. I decided to include it because after carefully reading through the menu and studying other articles about this place, I realized how intrigued it had me. This truly seems like a one of a kind experience of combining molecular gastronomy techniques with fine dining.  I am a firm believer that food can reach so many other senses in the body and when done right can take you through both a cultural & culinary journey. El Cielo is offering both a Lunch and Dinner menu for Miami Spice. From what I have been able to gather, the portions are small, so if you need Flinstone dishes, than this might not be the place for you. Now if you are like me and want to dabble more on the adventurous side than why not give this place a try. Their Miami Spice Menu includes things like Choco Therapy and a Spicy Cheese Ice cream w/Guava sauce & Crocanticos of Pistacchio.

CHRISTY’S

A local landmark of 35 years, Christy’s was the very first restaurant that I had ever tried during Miami Spice month 10 years ago! Now there are a few reasons why this fine dining establishment has been around for as long as it has. Romantic ambiance, chic sophistication, and a menu that is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters, Christy’s is a must try during this years Miami Spice. The Lobster bisque, one of the appetizer choices in their Miami spice menu, has been one of my favorite dishes for its savory and creamy flavor. Perfectly cooked Filet Mignon , and a beautiful baked Alaska are some of the traditional dishes that you would expect to find at this premier steakhouse. This is the right choice for a date night or even to sit back and enjoy live jazz at their piano bar! Their Miami Spice menu is being offered Monday – Saturday, with dinner beginning at 5:00pm.

Sweet Melody Crafted Ice Cream

A true artist, Mike Romeu takes Sweet Melody Crafted Ice Cream to another level of originality and imagination that is sure to please all your senses!

Have you ever spent days and days making up flavors of ice cream that no one’s ever eaten or heard of before?

I could never imagine that my favorite cheese, Brie, could be turned into a delectably sweet, rich, and creamy ice cream called “Let it Brie”.  But these are the types of imaginative and succulent flavors that Sweet Melody chef and owner, Mike Romeu has been crafting in his very own kitchen. It came as no surprise to me after having the pleasure of trying Sweet Melody Ice Cream that this 8 month company was rapidly growing into its own business and winning the hearts of ice cream fans all over Miami.

Sweet Melody had originally started 8 years ago when Mike and his then fiancé, Elena, were inspired by their grandmothers and Cuban roots to create unique yet familiar flavors of ice cream. Sadly, Elena passed away in July 2009 and with that, their dream of sharing their culture and creativity in the form of ice cream came to a halt.

After some time Mike decided that it was only right to continue to pursue that dream he once shared and make it into a reality. Using his daughter as an inspiration, Mike brought about Sweet Melody, named after his daughter and of course his love for music. (If you look at the list of flavors you will see how much of an influence music truly is to his own art)

Sweet Melody truly is special. Its variety of flavors is a reflection of Mike’s passion and ingenuity.

The dairy used for the ice cream is hormone free and sweeteners are GMO free as well. Mike doesn’t use stabilizers or artificial flavors or colors (exceptions are noted such as Jack and Coke flavor which has Coca Cola). The highest quality Belgium chocolate and vanilla bean is used to prepare Sweet Melody ice cream.

I was lucky to try an array of flavors from Sweet Melody’s list of 22! Flavors like Gorgonzola Jam, Cherry Darling, Churros con Cajeta, Let it Brie, and Bourbon Pecan were as satisfying as they were beautiful.

I have to say that my favorite was the Let it Brie, baked brie ice cream with apricot jam swirl, silvered almonds and diced apricots. It is a perfect balance of sweet and savory combined in a creamy, cool spoonful of goodness! I am being biased because I am not only a huge fan of brie, but an even bigger fan of the Beatles who are reflected in its name.

Like the Let it Brie flavor, Gorgonzola Jam is a bit sharp in its taste, and I would only recommend it to those that are not only cheese fans, but can handle adventure in their ice cream. Bourbon Pecan and Cherry Darling both live up to their names and leave your mouth watering after every bite.

Sweet Melody is currently being served in two restaurants located in Coral Gables:
Trust & Co. and Caffe Vialetto. The ice cream typically runs out before anticipated and orders are growing each week. Mike is also working on new and eccentric flavors every week for places like the YVE in Downtown Miami and even looking to collaborate with Misha’s cupcakes. The Peach Lavender Amaretto is one of his newest creations and is already generating some buzz!

Sweet Melody is also available for delivery and pints range from $8.00 – $12.00. There is definitely something for everyone when it comes to Sweet Melody Ice cream, though none is ever ordinary.

And why would you want ordinary! In a place that has constant 90 degree weather, tropical views, and an array of latin cultures, Sweet Melody showcases Miami’s best features.

Blueberry Pecan Cheesecake                                                                   

 Blueberry cheesecake ice cream spiced pecans and graham cracker crust pieces. Roasted pecans spiced with ginger, allspice, nutmeg add an exotic flair to traditional NYC comfort food.

Lemon Ginger                                                                                             

Fresh ginger ice cream with Meyer lemon, candied ginger and toasted walnuts. Turkish bay leaves, Madagascar vanilla bean and a touch of organic honey round out the flavor profile.

Stout’s Honor                                                                                             

Chocolate stout ice cream with ale nuts & toasted sesame sticks. It’s like an entire Happy Hour in a pint! The stout flavor is pronounced with chocolate and coffee notes.

PB & J

Peanut butter ice cream flavored with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla. Swirls of grape jelly throughout make for a nostalgic and comforting flavor combination.

Let It Brie

Gorgonzola Jam                                                                                       

Gorgonzola ice cream with homemade apple-fig preserves and candied walnuts throughout. The Gorgonzola leaves a clean finish on the palate that is just the right amount.

Arroz con Mango                                                                                      

Coconut toasted rice pudding ice cream with a hint of cardamom and house made mango puree swirl

Elena’s Heavenly Chocolate Cake                                                                         

Rich dark chocolate ice cream with brandy, dark chocolate cake pieces throughout, roasted cherries and cherry reduction. It’s for serious dark chocolate lovers!

Cinnamon Hazelnut Coffee Crunch                                                     

Cinnamon and hazelnut coffee ice cream with toasted hazelnuts and homemade cinnamon cookies. The flavor gets more complex and rich with every spoonful.

Bo & Jo’s Guava Cream Cheese                                                                 

Guava and cream cheese flavored ice cream with diced chunks of sweetened guava and guava swirls throughout. A traditional Cuban snack flavor inspired by my grandmother.

Jala-Peńo Biz-Ness                                                                                    

Jalapeño and orange ice cream with hints of lemon and orange zest sprinkled in. A clean citrus burst with a bit of fragrant heat makes for an incredibly well balanced summer flavor.

Churros con Chocolate                                                                               

Hot chocolate flavored ice cream with hints of cinnamon and cayenne for a little spice and heat. Swirls of goat’s milk cajeta throughout and chunks of cajeta soaked homemade churros with cinnamon sugar coating.

Churros con Cajeta                                                                                    

Churro flavored ice cream with Grade A Madagascar vanilla, organic Vietnamese cinnamon, goat’s milk cajeta and cajeta soaked churros in every bite

Avocado Have It (V)                                                                                  

Avocado ice cream made with coconut milk, chunks of 85% dark chocolate and pink peppercorns. The peppercorns add pops of intense flavor that bring everything together.

Chai My Coconut  (V)

Coconut ice cream spiced with cardamom and ginger. Toasted cashews melt into the ice cream and combine with the spices to explode on the palate.

Redlander Restaurant

Schnebly’s Winery has added a fresh new restaurant that offers farm to table dining experience.

   Since 2003, Schnebly’s Winery has offered South Florida a one of a kind experience, featuring the brightest and most unique flavors of wine you could possibly imagine. What better way to keep the tradition of using local and fresh ingredients than by adding a new edition to their team and introducing The Redlander Restaurant. Led by Chef Dewey LoSasso, my dining experience at the Redlander was anything but ordinary!

 I am going to get straight to the point and say that from beginning to end, my taste buds were overjoyed by each plate that was brought to the table.

I went to two different extremes with the appetizers and had the Mahi Mahi Ceviche and the Crispy Guava Chicken Wings. The ceviche was fresh, light, and had a great balance of citrus and spicy flavors, accompanied with an avocado and corn mash.

As for the wings, I don’t want to be biased, since I like everything extra crispy, but they were definitely my top choice in appetizers. Smothered in sweet yet tangy Guava, the wings had a perfect texture and every bite was as succulent as the first. (oh and crispy!)

I probably should have gone on the lighter side when it came to my entrée, but who are we kidding! The Pork and Grits dish was on the heavy side, but if you are looking for comfort and flavor, then this is the dish for you! The creaminess of the grits with the intense juicy flavor of the pulled pork had me on cloud nine!   The Redlander Burger had an interesting hint of mint and pepper to it and went really well with the coleslaw and fries.

Now if you are adventurous like me, you will not go wrong with the Avocado Flan Brulee for dessert. The avocado and flan combination has a refreshing, sweet and velvety taste to it. However, if you are not one to eat sweet avocado, then I suggest the Flourless Chocolate Torte. It was rich in chocolate flavor and fudgy for those of you who are skeptical about the “flourless” part of the dessert.

I highly recommend that you try The Redlander Restaurant when vising Schnebly’s Winery for a close to home, fresh, farm to table experience.

                  Remember, there is no need to rush! Take your time and savor every bite.
